NILES (WKZO-AM) — A fire in Niles Township is being blamed on gear used to grow and process marijuana.
It takes a lot of lights and heat to grow and dry marijuana indoors, investigators said.
Luther Borders, 34, was arrested for a probation violation after he was treated for minor burns.
More serious drug charges are pending. Child Protective Services took custody of his two children.
About a third of his home was damaged. The rest was damaged by smoke and water. Police obtained a warrant and took away his crop.
They are estimating the damage at between $60,000 and $80,000.
