KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Rep. Jon Hoadley has introduced legislation that he claims will keep more newly-relocated businesses within Michigan borders over the long-term.
Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, is targeting companies that were lured to the state by tax breaks.
“If you get Michigan tax credits to keep your company here, and if you try to pack up and move right near the the end of those credits, we’ll get them back,” Hoadley said. “We paid for you to come here and you tried to change the deal right at the end?”
He says it’s part of a “Michigan jobs first” agenda.
Hoadley also introduced a bill that he claims would terminate credits for Michigan companies that opt to ship jobs overseas or out of state.
He’s hoping the House will take a closer look at those bills after the November election.
