KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Jury selection and opening arguments are scheduled Tuesday in the trial of Daveeta Walker, a Kalamazoo woman charged with two counts of murder, first-degree child abuse and torture for allegedly causing the death of her daughter, four-year-old Kharisma Richardson, on the girl’s birthday in March.
Testimony during her preliminary hearing revealed that pathologists found well over 100 scars, contusions, abrasions, burns and other injuries to her body, allegedly caused by her 25-year-old mother.
Walker reportedly admitted to authorities that she would “whoop” the little girl with a belt. They also claim she punched her and scalded her in a hot bath just prior to her death.
Walker reportedly admitted to authorities that she was frustrated because the child was having difficulty with potty training.
