BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A robbery suspect who tried to hide in plain sight from authorities by blending in with students at a Battle Creek school has been formally charged with unarmed robbery and resisting arrest.
Police say 17-year-old Robert London assaulted an employee at an Econo Lodge early Monday, taking his cell phone. He then went to school at Battle Creek Central High School.
A school liaison officer recognized him, so London bolted to the W.K. Kellogg Alternative School, got another student to swap clothes with him and tried to blend into the student body there, investigators said.
The school went into lockdown and he was eventually spotted and arrested.
On Tuesday, London, who already accumulated an extensive criminal record as a juvenile, was charged. His bond was set at $50,000.
