KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo murder case from early this year will go to the jury today.
Nasi Ben-Yaisrael is charged with the first-degree murder of 18-year-old DeShontae Ellis during a teen alcohol party at the Oshtemo Red Roof Inn on Jan. 2.
Ellis never attended the party. He would have graduated from Kalamazoo Central this spring and had applied at several colleges.
He was just there to drive three girls to the party and was reportedly shot because he tried to break up a fight between them.
The prosecutor presented their case during the two-day trial.
The defense presented no witnesses and will claim the prosecution failed to show it was Ben-Yaisrael who pulled the trigger.
After closing arguments Thursday morning, it will be up to the jury to decide.
