KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — An altercation that led to gunfire at the Stadium Drive Apartments near Asylum Lake may result in attempted murder charges.
Kalamazoo Public Safety was dispatched at about 4:42 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a large fight. On the way, they learned that shots had been reported.
They found a large crowd. witnesses told police three men had gotten into an argument that came to an abrupt end when one of them pulled a gun and fired shots at the other two.
He missed.
“Officers were able to locate the suspect in the 1100 block of Mason Street where he was arrested for assault with intent to commit murder,” Lt. Craig Habel said in a press release.
The 33-year-old suspected gunman was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail and is being held pending arraignment.
It was four years ago this month that Jante Mackerel was shot to death during a party at the same apartment complex. Tyrein Sheppard is serving a 22-year sentence after agreeing to plead guilty to second-degree murder and a gun felony.
