UPDATE – 10/7 at 9:40 a.m.: A 17-year-old Loy Norrix High School Student has been booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail and charged with a felony for making terrorist threats against the school district.
Lt. Brad Meisner said it’s a very serious charge and the student is very remorseful.
It began with a Facebook post that included the threat to shoot up the two high schools. It was accompanied by a picture of a clown.
Meisner said they were able to trace the message through Facebook to the I.P. address of the suspect.
He was taken into custody at about 6 a.m. They believe he acted alone.
From every indication, it was a hollow threat that the student didn’t have any real capability of carrying it out, just as authorities had predicted when they first assessed the threat.
It’s appears to be just the latest in a series of creepy clown copycat crimes that have been popping up for the last couple of weeks, annoying school officials and police agencies through the south and midwest.
We are still waiting to hear whether the school district plans to take some sort of disciplinary action against the student.
Students are quickly learning a new lesson, that clowning around on social media can ruin your young life.
It brings to four the number of West Michigan teens have been identified and three of them have been busted for posting as creepy clowns and making threats.
Two 15-year-old students who made threats in South Haven and Covert schools have been charged with felonies and will be tried as juveniles.
Grandville police have a suspect identified for a similar clown posting there, but so far no arrest has been made.
Authorities hope that by pressing cases against the teens, it will be a deterrent for others.
