KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A candidate challenging Kalamazoo County Treasurer Mary Balkema claims she is making false accusations about his character in their new campaign ad.
Republican Party Chair Scott McGraw said they have the documents that show he has been arrested for drunk driving and driving a stolen car and owes tens of thousands in back taxes and liens.
McGraw said it should make voters think twice before electing Democrat Sunny Sahu.
“Voters need to know that and make the right decision,” Sahu said.
The Democratic candidate for tresurer admits he made a mistake and was caught drunk driving, but also claims that the rest are lies and distortions and he also has documents to prove it.
He has paid what he owes, Sahu said.
Sahu said this kind of underhanded charactor assassination, “discourges ordinary people from being involved in politics, and our Democracy is only strong and is only at its best when we all are part of it.”
Sahu, who works as an assistant city attorney in Battle Creek, said, if the charges against him were true, he would not be permitted to do what he is doing now.
