JACKSON COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Two cyclists have been killed in Jackson County after they were struck by an elderly driver Friday afternoon.
Jackson County Deputies were dispatched to Wampler’s Lake Road for a traffic incident at 4:45 p.m.
They did not know the nature of the collision until they arrived at the crash site.
One of the cyclist was dead at the scene. EMT’s began working on the wounds of the second victim, loading her on board an ambulance and were heading to the University of Michigan Hospital, when the second cyclist died.
The names of the two women have not been released, only that they were from Norvell Township.
Deputies say it appears the 76-year-old driver strayed over the fog line in his 2002 Ford Sable and into the designated bike lane just before he struck the two women.
They have ruled out alcohol as a possible factor.
