SCHOOLCRAFT (WKZO-AM) — A Schoolcraft Public Schools student sitting in the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home is not only facing the possibility of permanent expulsion, but the prospect of being prosecuted as a terrorist and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The fact that the boy is just 14 years old may come into play some time before that happens, but it’s a possibility.
Schoolcraft police were notified late Saturday afternoon that a post on Instagram implied that violence was going to occur at an unidentified school in the district. It appears police are getting much better at tracking computer threats to their sources. They were quickly able to identify and arrest the young suspect.
The juvenile was arrested for making terrorist threats, which is a 20-year felony. They say it appears he acted alone.
Their investigation file has already been forwarded to the prosecutor, who will have to decide the final charge, whether to charge the boy as an adult and whether any additional counts should also be filed.
