KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Two more guns have been taken out of the hands of suspected drug dealers.
The suspects were taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail. The guns were locked up in the Kalamazoo Public Safety evidence locker after a trio of arrests Saturday evening on Kalamazoo’s north side.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the corner of Cobb Avenue and Paterson Street before 5 p.m. An alert citizen was able to give the officers a detailed description of the two men who were seen walking away from the sound of the gunshots, and their location.
When confronted, the two men ran in different directions. Both were captured after short foot chases.
A handgun discarded by a 21-year-old from Kalamazoo was recovered. He is being held for possessing a stolen weapon, resisting and obstructing, possession with intent to distribute meth and two other gun counts.
The other suspect, a 17-year-old from Galesburg, is being held on an outstanding warrant and obstructing a police officer.
Two hours later and just a few blocks away, a 30-year-old Kalamazoo man was reported for threatening people near Summit and Douglas avenues with a handgun.
Responding officers spotted the suspect walking along Douglas and made contact. The suspect admitted he had a loaded gun, complied with officers and was cooperative, despite the fact that he did not have a permit to carry.
He was booked at the Kalamazoo County Jail for carrying a concealed weapon and a marijuana possession charge.
“Through collaboration with community members and stakeholders … we as a city will continue to reduce crime, build and maintain trust, and provide the most efficient, effective, and professional public safety services available,” Sgt. Derrick Turner said in a press release.
