TEXAS TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A man accused of harassing and screaming at dog owners along the Al Sabo Trail in Texas Township has been identified and arrested.
After news reports about the incidents were aired, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pauli Matyas said a dog-walker who happened to snap a photo of the man came forward.
“They showed the photo around and were able to identify him through State Department of Corrections agents, and so they tracked them down and arrested them,” Matyas said.
The suspect is being held on warrants filed by Grand Traverse County while they put their own investigation file together and present it to the local prosecutor.
Matyas said the 28-year- old suspect has a history of criminal behavior and mental health issues, but they don’t know why he was confronting people along the trail.
“He does have anger management issues from the past and probably those have been resurected again,” Matyas said.
The suspect could face an animal cruelty charge for allegedly pepper spraying a dog along the trail in Texas Township.
Matyas said they will leave it up to the prosecutor to decide how he wants to proceed against the suspect.
His name won’t be released until he is formally charged.
