KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A pair of southwest Michigan state senators say they’re growing tired of the mudslinging they’re seeing in the race for president.
Sen. Margaret O’Brien, R-Portage, says neither Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton are showing much substance in their debate performances or stump speeches.
“Both candidates are talking more about each other, and I would rather see them stand up and talk about what their record is and what they believe in,” O’Brien said. “I think there’s a lot to learn about both candidates, and it’s been very disheartening to see the whole tenor and tone of the election.”
Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, agrees.
“We need to address big problems, and unfortunately, I think there are more personal attacks than there is talk about the real issues facing our country,” Schuitmaker said.
Both Republicans stopped short of denouncing Trump over his comments about sexually assaulting women.
