KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been tabbed by the Kalamazoo Public Library to speak about his new book in an event at Miller Auditorium scheduled for next March.
Abdul-Jabbar’s “Writings on the Wall: Searching for a New Equality Beyond Black and White” has been selected by the library as its novel for its 2017 Reading Together campaign. The library said it selected the work by the former Los Angeles Lakers star because it addresses issues that are important not only in Kalamazoo, but across the country.
“Abdul-Jabbar explores American politics, racism, religion, gender issues, classism, the news media and much more,” Farrell Howe, a marketing and communications representative with the library, said in a press release.
“The purpose of Reading Together is to build a stronger community with deeper connections through the common experience of reading the same book and exploring its themes together,” Howe said. ” When we do that, we engage and learn, not only about ourselves, but also more importantly about each other and the world around us.”
The event is set for 7 p.m. on March 14.
Abdul-Jabbar’s book will be available for purchase at Michigan News Agency on West Michigan Avenue. Copies will also be available for checkout at the library.
