KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A developer has just secured a variance to build a four story hotel at the Davenport College Campus site on West Main.
The Boji Group of Lansing is talking to Hilton, Mariott and Intercontinental. The hotel would be on the back part of the property with room for retail stores and restaurants in front, creating about 100 new jobs.
County Commissioner Julie Rogers says she has heard concerns from constituents about traffic, drainage and lighting which will be addressed by the Township Planning Commission in the months ahead.
She says it would be a welcome contribution to the local tax base in the township, as long as it doesn’t come at too high a price, by creating problems for its neighbors.
55-feet, the hotel would be taller than most other structures in the area and taller than current zoning allows, that’s why they needed the Zoning Board to approve a variance. If all goes as planned it might be open in time for Christmas next year.
