KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Plans to expand and improve Bronson Park and renovate the Fountain of the Pioneers have been in the works for years, and went public this summer.
Last night they held the kick-off event for the public fundraising campaign in the Park.
City Parks Director Sean Fletcher says they have already raised about a million dollars from foundations, corporate contributors and local philanthropists and have about 1.8 million to go.
He says they will be adding WIFI, new benches, they will improve technology at the Rotary Stage, “Complete renovation of the Fountain of the pioneers, add a skating rink and a splash pad, we are going to raise the level of the west reflecting pool so it can be drained before concert events and be used for seating to watch the performances on stage.”
Last night they unveiled renderings of some of the proposed improvements.
They also introduced the campaign video featuring Matt Giraurd and Lynn Houghton.
It may be 2018 or more before they actually break ground on any of the improvements.
