LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Never mind Trump and Clinton, the hot race in Michigan will determine which party will control the State House.
Republicans have amassed $2.25-million dollars for the final push. The money has been gathered from the DeVos family, Governor Snyder, the State Republican Party and a mysterious group called Reinventing Michigan and Better Michigan Fund that has focused on robocalls and parody websites.
Democratic Party Chair Brandon Dillon says they have about a third of what the GOP has on hand, and there are other obstacles, like trying to elect Democrats in districts designed to elect Republicans.
Still he is optimistic they can flip the nine seats required to reclaim control of the House after the Flint Water Crisis and if they get a big coattail effect from the presidential race.
Dillon says it’s all about turnout. They win when democrats vote and lose when they stay home.
He says they have gotten a few big donations, but most of the money they have available has come from individual donors in small amounts.
