KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan University’s football team moved up three spots in the latest Associated Press poll to 17th, even though they didn’t have a game this weekend.
They also climbed from 20th to 18th on the Amway Coaches Poll as they prepare for Tuesday night’s game in Muncie, Ind., against Ball State.
WMU moved up in the rankings because other schools faltered, including 13th-ranked Boise State. Their loss this weekend to unranked Wyoming could mean, if the Broncos remain undefeated at the end of the season, they may have a shot at the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day.
That would be a very big deal, and a potentially lucrative one for Bronco athletics.
The University of Michigan, the state’s other undefeated team remained at No. 2 in both polls, after they won the Paul Bunyan Trophy back from Michigan State on Saturday.
The unofficial rankings will cease to mean much after tomorrow night. That’s when the College Football Playoff Committee will release their first ranking of the season. The picture will be clearer then for all the teams involved.
The Broncos go for their 9th win tomorrow night. Kickoff is is 8 p.m. on 96.5 WZOX-FM.
