KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Though we may still be a least a week away from the first snow of the season in the Kalamazoo area, the Michigan Department of Transportation says it’s nearly ready for winter.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said the agency is currently shifting operations from construction to winter cleanup.
“Our maintenence folks are getting geared up they’re sharpening blades and cleaning up plow trucks and getting the salt barns ready to go,” Schirripa said
Schirripa said they have to be prepared because Michigan winters can be tough to predict.
“We’ll be ready when Mother Nature brings her worst,” Schirripa said.
Flakes have already fallen in the upper peninsula and and the northern portion of the lower peninsula.
