KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The lack of affordable housing is one of the biggest problems the Kalamazoo area faces, and the new Kalamazoo City Commission is well-positioned to do something about it.
Mayor-elect Dave Anderson is the Director of Housing at Integrated Services. He says gun violence is first on his list, and housing is second. New Commissioners Stephanie Hoffman and Quianna Decker have been working on Housing boards and agencies for years. They told the crowd at an election victory party earlier this week that they want the city to be a National leader. Don Cooney is a Social Work Professor and well versed in the housing issue. Esto Juarez is an Associate Director at the Urban Alliance who came up from the streets.
Housing will likely be one of the areas the new Commission will target when they begin allocating funding from the American Rescue Plan in the coming months and years.
