HARTFORD (WKZO-AM)– A Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputy is nursing his injuries at home, after he was forced to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a pickup that flew at him on Interstate 94 Sunday afternoon.
The driver of the pickup suffered life-threatening injuries when he crash landed. Michigan State Police say the 77-year-old driver, a man from Kentucky, lost control westbound near the 49-mile marker, shot through the median where the truck was launched airborne into oncoming traffic.
The east bound deputy saw the truck flying in his direction and swerved to avoid a collision, landing in the ditch, damaging the patrol car. He was treated and released at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
The other driver was admitted in critical condition.
The 3:20 p.m. crash shut down the interstate for two hours and remains under investigation.
