KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Things you need to know about GameDay Saturday at WMU: The actual on-air program begins at 9 a.m. and runs until noon. They will open the area for fans a few hours before 9 a.m.
There are the usual security issues about bags. For the game day audience they encourage signs as long as you keep it clean, it’s a family show. No signs on sticks. The producers also like clever signs.
If you aren’t participating in the events on campus, a word to the wise: You may want to plan your trips to avoid the campus area altogether.
WMU Police Chief Scott Merlo said parking will be at a premium all day long, so leave early and be patient.
“Between the pedestrian traffic and the vehicular traffic, it’s going to be crowded,” Merlo said. “There will be police officers spread throughout the campus area to assist with traffic and parking. Obey their commands. Be respectful and come to cheer on the Broncos and have a good time.”
Merlo compares it to the security effort they had to organize last year when the Michigan State Spartans came to Waldo Stadium to play Western.
Merlo said WMU has the best fans. They are knowledgeable about how parking works for a big game on campus and he isn’t anticipating any major problems, if everyone is patient.
The National Weather Service is predicting cold with a chance of rain or snow, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
Grand Rapids meteorologist Juris Laurens said it’s going to feel even colder because of a stiff breeze, and because it will be such a dramatic change from what we have experienced so far this season.
You will want to dress in layers and perhaps the outer layer should be water and wind proof. You should also think about boots.
