DEARBORN (WKZO-AM) — Even though this is the first Thanksgiving in a while that travelers will be paying more for gas than the previous year, AAA is predicting they will beat the old record for travel by 2 percent or more.
They say rising wages and increased consumer confidence will trump the fact that we will be paying about 12 to 27 cents more per gallon than we did last Thanksgiving.
National petroleum pollster Trilby Lundberg said Michigan is still better off at $2.12 per gallon on average than the rest of the nation, which will be paying about a dime more than that on average to get home for the holiday.
You may be paying a little more now, but AAA says there is still a chance you have already saved enough this year to finance whatever travels are planned this week.
They estimate that U.S. drivers have saved over $28 billion so far, compared to last year.
