KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It was one of the more successful ballot issues yesterday in Kalamazoo, but one of the men behind the Metro Connect Millage renewal says they were relieved nonetheless.
Metro Director Sean McBride says local support is a critical element of their funding because it makes them eligible for State and Federal funding as well.
“This is to get people to jobs, education, medical appointments and other services throughout our community,” McBride said.
The measure won by a very large margin, with current unofficial results clocked in at 25,016 “yes” votes and 9,820 “no” votes.
McBride says thousands depend on the door-to-door demand-response service, which is available to everyone in the county.
The Metropolitan area’s larger ride-haul bus service has its own separate millage which is approved by the voters in those communities where the buses run.
