KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — One of Kalamazoo’s unique Christmas events is underway after a kick-off event at Borgess Medical Center’s Lawence Education Center.
The 31st-annual “Tree of Lights” campaign kicked off to raise money for breast cancer screenings for low-income women who may not have adequate medical coverage, or for whatever reason cannot afford it.
Tony Donnell with the Borgess Foundation says each light on the tree represents someone who has contracted cancer. Some are survivors but some are not, but their chances improve greatly if they can get screened early. They are honoring 1,300 names in lights as part of the campaign.
Their goal this year is to raise $75,000.
