LANSING (WKZO) — Kalamazoo State Rep. John Hoadley says voters should be watching the state legislature closely during this Lame Duck session to keep legislator in check, and to make sure that nothing slips through.
He says lawmakers for whatever reason, take advantage of the fact that they are no longer answerable to the public to push through bills that are poorly thought through, designed to help a special interest or just wrong headed.
He says “every day we have been voting on 10-11 bills, and that was in the slow period. Next week and the week after are the weeks when it gets very busy”.
He says a voter ID law similar to bills that has already been struck down by courts in other states could come up for a vote soon.
Pieces of legislation that would have been used against candidates had they been proposed before the election, are now showing up during Lame Duck.
He says if constituents see something they don’t like they should contact their lawmakers, but don’t wait because they are moving fast.
He says there are 6 days of session left before they take a Christmas Break, and end the session.
