PORTER TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Accident investigators are blaming slick road conditions, bald tires and speed for a crash that killed a couple from Lawton Sunday afternoon.
They say conditions were poor at the time of the crash because of the first snowfall of the year.
Deputies say they beleive that 22-year-old Jaylen Weller and his 20-year-old girlfriend, Kylie Benkert were killed because he was driving too fast for conditions on M-40 south of Lawton.
His Buick LeSabre fishtailed because the tires couldn’t get any traction and his car was struck in the driver’s side by a Dodge Ram pickup coming in the opposite direction.
The couple had both originally been from Dowagiac.
The driver of the pick-up was not injured but the truck was totaled.
