PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Portage’s fire marshal is looking for the cause of a fire that gutted the home in the 2000 block of Eckener Drive early Sunday morning.
They estimate the fire caused $150,000 damage to the home and its contents Sunday morning.
Portage Public Safety crews were dispatched to the burning home just after 7 a.m. The first crews reported that there were heavy flames coming from the single floor structure. The three occupants had escaped before fire crews arrived, but required treatment at the scene for mild smoke inhalation.
It took about 20 minutes to knock down the flames, but by then the home had been gutted and a neighboring home suffered superficial heat damage.
