KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Board will try one more time tonight to approve their budget for 2022 after failing to agree on how to spend Capital Improvement funding. Between their own funds and the American Rescue Plan, the County has enough money to pay for everything on the list, but there are uncertainties about which items might not be eligible for pandemic money.
Deputy Administrator Amanda Woodin could not give them a clear-cut answer on that.
“There will be a higher level of scrutiny from the financial auditors every year that we utilize these funds.”
Several Commissioners expressed frustration with the process at their last meeting. The Commission will take up the latest recommendation from a sub-committee tonight…to see if they can get a majority.
Once the budget is finalized, they plan to take up their spending plan for the $51-million in ARPA funding headed their way to pay for pandemic recovery efforts.
