KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Four people are in custody after sheriff’s deputies say they stole around $6,000 worth of merchandise from Kalamazoo County businesses.
Undersheriff Pali Matyas said three adults and one juvenile were spotted Thursday at the Kohl’s on West Main Street in Oshtemo Township trying to hide large quantities of stolen goods. They left the store, but deputies later caught up with their vehicle.
“Looking through their car, they just had tons of merchandise that they had stolen from all around Oshtemo, Kalamazoo and Portage,” Matyas said.
He claims the four were part of a larger ring.
“This is their livelihood, they simply steal,” Matyas said. “Once they have the product, they have various outlets where they can move the product off for pennies on the dollar.”
Matyas said investigators will recommend prosecutors charge the group with felony organized retail fraud.
