BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek police officials are expected to make a formal statement at some time next week about a cell phone video of two officers arresting Dewan Gordon, who had a suspended license and is also disabled.
It has appeared on Facebook. They had good reason to make the stop because he also had a felony arrest warrant out of Lansing charging him with armed robbery.
They had to physically move Gordon from his own car to the back seat of the cruiser, and did it in a way that some apparently thought was inappropriate.
The Department says no official complaint has been filed and Chief Jim Blocker says on initial review it appears the arrest went by the book.
They say the suspect’s condition was assessed by doctors at Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo before he was released back to police custody. He is currently in the Calhoun County Jail pending formal charges.
