CINCINNATI (WKZO-AM) — The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld an order requiring the state of Michigan to provide massive amounts of bottled water to every home they can’t prove has a working filter, after failing to meet Friday’s federal court ordered deadline to comply.
Flint Mayor Karen Weaver applauded the decision saying “we know we deserve clean water, and we know we need to do everything possible to get people the water that they need.” The state contends the order is unnecessary and too expensive.
Both of Michigan’s Senators and Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, have told the state that they must do their part now that Congress has approved $170 million to remove lead pipes, improve healthcare and pay off debts. President Obama has signed the spending extension bill that includes that money.
The state’s report on progress submitted to the court shows the state has failed to meet any of the prescribed goals, even the more-simplistic ones.
