KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A young woman who got very drunk and then struck and killed a Western Michigan University engineering student last May has been given a 10-to-20-year prison sentence for the hit-and-run fatality.
Morgan Rowley cut a deal with prosecutors, pleading guilty to driving under the influence causing a death and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
The fact that the 22-year-old had a blood-alcohol count that was well over the legal limit and a previous drunken driving conviction in Traverse City also played a role in her sentencing.
Witnesses say her Honda CRV swerved well off the roadway to strike Nic Heil, who was jogging along KL Avenue in Oshtemo Township when he was killed.
