LANSING (WKZO-AM) –Two years after Michigan voters rejected the idea of a wolf hunt in Michigan, the Governor has signed a bill permitting that very activity.
The signing comes just a month after the Michigan Court of Appeals tossed out the last law enacted to allow a wolf hunt on a technicality. The new law fixes that technicality.
Animal rights groups are howling, but for now the wolves are safe. They remain on the national endangered species list.
The state law would authorize the Natural Resources Commission to declare which animals and fish are fair game. It would only apply to wolves if and when they are taken off that national list of protected animals.
Another bill signed by the Governor yesterday authorizes the same group, the NRC to look for colors other than Hunter’s Orange to protect sports men and women in the woods.
They are reportedly thinking pink as a possibility as a way of attracting more women to the sport.
Women’s groups in Wisconsin, where Pink has already been adopted as a new color for use in the woods is calling the whole thing “demeaning”.
