KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The original plan was to have every Kalamazoo Public Safety officer equipped with a body camera by now, but supply issues are causing a bit of a slowdown.
Chief Jeff Hadley says, for reasons that have been beyond their control, they have only been able to equip about 30 officers so far. He says most of their cameras are on back order. It seems so many police departments want them, that they can’t make them fast enough.
Hadley says they have been impressed with the cameras so far. He says the picture quality is tremendous. He says because of the chest plate they are attached to, the pictures are not as unsteady as you see taken by other mini-cameras.
He is hoping that by mid-January, they will have all the cameras in-house and will be able to fully implement the program.
