KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says he is glad to see 2016 end, and he hopes 2017 begins with a win in the Cotton Bowl, but it will be a while before he is done dealing with the leftovers from this violent year.
2016 was an unprecedented year for homicides in Kalamazoo County and Getting says many of those cases will come to trial this coming year, including the two big cases.
The People Vs Jason Dalton involves the Uber driver charged with shooting eight people and killing six of them last February.
Charles Pickett Jr. of Battle Creek is due to be tried for allegedly running down five members of the Chain Gang Bicycle Club, killing five of them last June.
Both may attempt to claim they were insane at the time.
There were also many other homicides committed last year that may come to trial in 2017.
He says one thing he will look forward to in the coming year is the introduction of a Veteran’s specialty court that can address the cases of Military veterans with alternative solutions.
