KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Justin Murray helped make the Kalamazoo Wings’ Orange Ice game a happy one, as his late game goal pushed the K Wings to a 4-3 win over the defending ECHL champion Ft. Wayne Komets.
Murray’s power play goal with 31 seconds to go put Kalamazoo in front, after Komets captain Matt Boudens was sent off for a major penalty for a hit on Kalamazoo’s Brenden Miller.
The game was marked by several incidents, including one after Murray’s goal.
K Wings goaltender Jet Greaves stopped 36 Ft Wayne shots, and became the youngest goalie to win an ECHL game.
Two Kalamazoo players scored their first professional goals, Collin Saccoman and Michael Davies, while veteran Justin Taylor got in on the scoresheet as well.
The K Wings will host Toledo this Friday and then travel to Ohio for a Saturday game with the Walleye.
