KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public School officials say they are doing everything they can to make sure their buildings are safe. It follows incidents that triggered a lockdown at Kalamazoo Central High School last week, and vandalism blamed on a recent Tik Tok challenge.
Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri says they had already beefed up their security staff, procedures, cameras, and other security measures ahead of schools opening back up earlier this fall. She says they plan more as part of their three-year plan to recover from the pandemic.
Von Washington, with the Kalamazoo Promise, spoke on the subject, as a former principal in the district, saying schools are the safest place to be. Trustees Patti Sholler-Barber and Ti’anna Harrison add that they can’t do it alone.
KPS has just opened up two new positions on the security staff and are looking for candidates.
