LANSING, MI — General Motors Co. made $2.4 billion in net income on revenue of about $26.8 billion in the third quarter of 2021, down nearly 41% from last year’s third quarter. The automaker reported Wednesday a net income of $4.1 billion on revenue of $35.5 billion due to those small vehicle inventories at dealerships during the global chip shortage.
GM’s two Lansing area plants were idled for much of the summer due to the part shortage. GM employs about 5,000 hourly workers between Delta Township and Lansing Grand River Assembly.
The Detroit automaker said today it now expects its full-year results will approach the high end of its guidance of $11.5 billion to $13.5 billion in pre-tax earnings in 2021.
