KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Western Michigan men’s soccer team fell late to No. 21 West Virginia, 2-1, at the WMU Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.
After 71 minutes of a back-and-forth stalemate, it was the Broncos (4-5-4, 0-2-0 MAC) that struck first. After a foul Daniel Nimick served a free-kick into the box and sophomore defender Aidan O’Connor knocked it into the net for his second goal of the season.
The Mountaineers scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to flip the outcome. Ike Swiger tied the game up at 1-1 in the 76th minute and Ryan Crooks netted the game-winner in the 88th minute.
WVU outshot WMU 8-7 overall with a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Western Michigan heads back out on the road to MAC newcomers Georgia State and Georgia Southern on Thursday and Saturday.
