USDA is directing $270,000 to 114 projects in 37 states including Michigan to modernize rural drinking and wastewater infrastructure.
Projects in West Michigan include Stanton and Otsego Township. There, over $2.5 million will be used to help extend the water system into five areas and about 120 homes. PFAS chemicals have been detected in private wells in the areas of the project’s scope. The projects would be done in conjunction with a sewer extension project.
Another $3.8 million will be used to help Otsego Township extend its sewer collection system with construction of 1.7 miles of gravity sewer with manholes, service laterals and restoration.
