OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A semi-trailer hauling dozens of cows went off of the roadway on U.S. 131 in Kalamazoo County and rolled over Thursday morning, leaving several of the cows dead. The crash happened around 3:00 a.m. just south of the U.S. 131 Business Loop in Oshtemo Township.
That semi-trailer ended up on its side down a hill in a wooded area. Crews had to take the trailer apart to get access to compartments. 34 dairy cows were inside the semi-trailer and investigators say the majority of them did not survive. The driver was not injured.
One of the northbound U.S. 131 lanes was closed for almost eight hours. The cause of the crash has not been reported.
