Detroit opens the regular season at home Thursday against the defending Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning.
The 2021-22 NHL regular season will get started tonight. Things begin in Tampa, where the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Lightning will raise a banner as they host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Bolts will be trying to become the first three-peat winner since the New York Islanders won four in-a-row from 1980-83.
In the second game, the NHL’s 32nd franchise will make its regular season debut as the Seattle Kraken visit the Vegas Golden Knights. It’s a meeting of the NHL’s two newest teams in Las Vegas.
