GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) – Shoreline erosion along Lake Michigan continues to be a problem and more is expected this weekend.
The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids has issued a Lakeshore Flood Advisory from 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon until 1:00 p.m. on Monday as beach erosion and lakeshore flooding expected. The advisory covers Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren Counties.
Forecasters say parking lots and roads along the immediate lakeshore will experience minor flooding. Erosion of beaches and sand dunes is also expected.
Winds are expected increase to gale force Sunday afternoon and continue into Sunday night with peak waves of around ten feet Sunday evening. Residents are being told to stay away from piers as they will be over-topped by waves.
