UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Ascension and Bronson medical facilities have both issued a set of temporary visitor restrictions due to high numbers of flu cases state-wide.
“In an effort to protect our patients, families and associates, visitor restrictions at all Ascension Michigan hospitals across the state are now in effect,” Ascension officials said in a statement.
The following restrictions have been set for Ascension facilities:
- Ascension Michigan hospitals are limiting visitors to those who are 14 years of age or older. Children are at the greatest risk of getting and spreading the flu.
- Visitors should be healthy – free from fever, cough, colds or stomach virus symptoms. If you are not well, please do not visit.
- No more than two visitors will be allowed to visit with a patient at any one time.
- Visitors should remember to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before, during and after visiting.
Meanwhile, Bronson Hospital has issued similar restrictions at its facilities in Southwest Michigan, which include Bronson Methodist Hospital, Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, Bronson LakeView Hospital, Bronson South Haven Hospital and Bronson Commons.
Bronson issued the following restrictions through its website on Friday, January 3rd:
- Throughout the hospitals: Visitors must be 15 years or older.
- Emergency Departments: Only two visitors per patient are permitted. Visitors must be 15 years or older.
- Bronson BirthPlace in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek: Visitors limited to five people 15 years or older (including partner) specified by mother and consistent throughout the stay, plus baby’s siblings. Siblings younger than 15 years old will be required to wear a mask.
The restrictions come due to increased numbers of flu cases in Michigan. Health officials are urging citizens to get flu shots as cases are expected to increase.
