EAST LANSING, MI — Former Michigan State University head football coach George Perles has died. He was 85.
Perles also played football at MSU and served as the school’s athletic director. Most recently he sat on the Board of Trustees.
The Lansing State Journal reports that Perles died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family in East Lansing late Tuesday night.
The Army vet was born in Detroit in 1934. Perles had a long time connection to Michigan State and first joined the coaching staff under head coach Duffy Daugherty in 1960. He also coached in the pros with the Pittsburg Steelers.
