KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Michigan’s craft beer industry continues to blossom and expand, but breweries say they have an issue with the cap on how much beer they can distribute on their own without having a contract with a distributor.
State Representative Pauline Wendzel says the limit is currently 1,000 barrels a year, and she has a bill to double that and exclude taproom sales.
The Watervliet Republican announced the bill at the 2020 Michigan Brewer’s Guild Winter Conference and Trade Show in Kalamazoo Friday. Wendzel says her bill will be the lead bill in a bipartisan package aimed at cutting red tape for the craft beer industry.
