BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The former director of a Calhoun County veterans home was sentenced Monday after embezzling money from the group.
61-year-old Michael Campbell was ordered to serve one year of probation and perform 80 hours of community service helping local veterans groups, some of whose members he took advantage of years ago.
While executive director, Campbell was accused of stealing $250,000 from a former home for veterans, many of whom had special needs.
He entered guilty pleas to two misdemeanor counts of embezzlement while working as the head of Legion Villa in Springfield.
The allegations came to light back in 2014 when charges were brought against Campbell. They were later dismissed by the Calhoun County Prosecutors Office but the Michigan Attorney General’s Office refiled them.
