BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kellogg Company employees in Battle Creek have gone on strike after their contract expired at midnight Tuesday. The Battle Creek workers are joining employees at four other Kellogg locations in the United States, also on strike after a vote overwhelmingly passed by the union Monday evening.
The union and the company have not been able to come to an agreement recently. The union says they have been trying to negotiate a fair contract to provide employees with a good living wage and benefits. Kellogg officials say they are committed to negotiating a fair and competitive contract reflecting the contributions of employees and help set up their cereal business for long-term success.
This strike comes just weeks after an announcement by Kellogg that they would be cutting over 200 jobs in Battle Creek over the next two years.
