EAST LANSING, MI — A report early Wednesday morning in The Athletic indicates that Mel Tucker has agreed to take the head football coaching vacancy at Michigan State.
The offer from MSU, which still requires board approval, reportedly doubles Tucker’s salary and increases the amount he can offer assistant coaches.
Tucker finished 5-and-7 in his first season as Colorado‘s coach.
Tucker was interviewed last weekend and then went on Twitter to say he wasn’t interested in the MSU job.
On February 8th he tweeted, “While I am flattered to be considered for the HC job @MSU_football, I am committed to @CUBuffsFootball for #TheBuild of our program, its great athletes, coaches & supporters. #UnfinishedBusiness#GoBuffs We are #Relentless#Culture#TheBuild“
This comes after MSU’s Mark Dantonio announced he is retiring after spending the last 13 years as coach of the Spartans football team.
